This is an alert that is placed on your credit report that warns all potentials creditors viewing it that they need to take extra precautions before extending credit. For example, they must contact you at the phone numbers provided to them or
use other reasonable measures to verify your identity before extending you any
credit. This is not a credit freeze which completely stops access to your credit and can be a big hassle to deal whenever you need to access credit. We believe the fraud alert is the best option for consumers at this time.
A fraud alert can make it more difficult for you to obtain credit since the creditor may not be able to reach you on the phone numbers you have provided. Thus, some clients do not want the potential problems of dealing with a fraud alert and do not select this option when signing up for IDAvenger.
